Why a subscription and not a cut of your league? Most fantasy platforms take 10–15% off the top of every contest, so they earn more the more you play. StarTrader charges a flat subscription instead: what you pay us in real money doesn't move with how often you trade or how well you do.
You will also meet two in-game costs, and we would rather you hear them from us. There is a trade fee on Free and Plus, which is zero on Pro and Elite, and every tier pays tax on gains. Both are charged in StarCoins, not dollars. They exist to pull currency back out of the game so the economy doesn't inflate, they never convert to cash for us or for you, and inside a league part of the tax you pay goes straight into that league's prize pot and back out to players. That is the real difference from a contest rake: a cut of entry fees is money leaving a prize pool before anyone wins.

Tax applies to gains. Your portfolio itself is untaxed. You are taxed only when you sell a position for more than you paid for it. Holding costs you nothing, and selling at a loss is never taxed.
Losses carry forward. When you sell at a loss it is banked, and it reduces the gains you are taxed on later. Losses inside one sale net against that sale's gains too. Each pool is kept separate: a loss taken in a league offsets gains in that same league only. It cannot reach your personal accounts. Buying a name back within 30 days of selling it at a loss moves that part of the loss into the new position's cost basis instead, so you still get it back when you sell that position.
Your rate is a rolling 12-month average of the tiers you have held. No switch flips the day you upgrade. Upgrading starts pulling your rate down immediately and it keeps falling the longer you stay, which is why a one-month upgrade right before a big sale will not buy you the headline rate.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, anytime. Upgrades take effect immediately and your tax history carries over. Downgrades take effect at your next billing cycle.
Does annual billing affect my tax rate?
No. Your rate comes from your subscription tier. Billing period has no effect on it. It is a rolling 12-month average of the tiers you have held, so an upgrade phases in rather than switching over on day one. Annual billing just saves you money on the subscription itself.
What happens if I downgrade?
The downgrade takes effect at your next billing cycle. If you have more accounts than your new tier allows, close the extras before downgrading.
