Who builds StarTrader

StarTrader is independent and self-funded. No investors setting growth targets, no house taking a cut of your league.

The person behind it

I've played fantasy football, basketball, and baseball for years. Redraft, dynasty, best ball, daily, points leagues, roto. I like all of it, and I ran into real problems with all of it.

Season-long formats ask you to make your big decisions in August and then mostly wait. Daily formats fix the waiting but reset every night, so being right about a player never adds up to anything. And in most of them, the platform takes its cut off the top before anyone wins.

I built StarTrader to fix those problems for myself. Somewhere in the process it stopped being a fix and became its own game. Your read on a player is a position you can hold, add to, or sell, all season, at any hour. I think it's genuinely new, and I think it's fun.

I'm building it in the open. If something looks wrong, tell me.

Come find me in Discord

It is where I actually am. Bug reports, feature arguments, and “this number looks wrong” messages go straight to the person who writes the code. There is no support queue. It is also the fastest way to work out whether this is a real project or not, so come and look before you sign up for anything.

Three things that won't change

We charge a subscription and take no cut of your league. It is a worse business on paper and a much better one to run: the house has no stake in whether you win, and no reason to design anything that quietly works against you.

I am here for the long season. This is self-funded, so there are no investors setting a growth target that has to be hit or the lights go off. The most concrete answer to “will this still be here next season” is not a promise, it is the shipping record: the changelog is public and dated, so you can check the pace yourself rather than take my word for it.

There is no real money in it, and there never will be. StarCoins are a virtual currency with no cash value outside the platform and cannot be withdrawn. That is a deliberate line rather than a limitation we are working around. It is what keeps this a skill game played against your league. More on that in the FAQ.
